BarCamp London is a free “unconference” event for anyone interested in technology and is held a couple of times a year. BarCamp started in the United States, and has now spread across the world.
Unlike a traditional conference, at BarCamp any of the attendees can choose to talk about any subject they’re passionate about. When you first arrive, you fill your chosen room and time on the schedule (aka “The Grid”). It’s great if you’re not a natural born speaker, as everyone is in the same boat.
After attending several such events throughout the UK, I started taking a more active role in the organisation. I was part of the team who put together both BarCamp London 6 and 7, and one of my responsibilities was the design of the website. Additionally, I wrote some of the content alongside Caroline Mockett and the rest of the BarCamp London team.
The web site is built around WordPress, a popular blogging application, and was used a central location for news and updates for attendees, as well as helping to attract potential sponsors.
